The topic is Self Esteem.

We all know how important your self esteem is don't we?

If not then perhaps you should read this page and learn more about how important it is to have a healthy level of self esteem.

Quotes by Karl Perera (taken from my book "Self esteem Secrets"):

"Without self-belief you'll be defeated before you even get started."

"As a parent, your well-being is important to your family"

"The whole point of self-improvement is to become a better person. It is not selfish to want to improve yourself and be happy. It is only selfish if you obsess about it and ignore others wishes."

This is just a quick selection of a few points in my book Self esteem Secrets, newly published by Motivational Press.

If you would like to read my book and learn how to build your self esteem daily then you can get a copy from many bookstores online and offline in many countries.
― Ayn Rand

Do you value yourself? Can I ask you to think for a moment - what is your attitude to yourself? Many people make a big mistake and think that by being humble they are being good. Humble means not talking about yourself or taking credit for what you do. Now the problem with this is that if you do not build yourself up by reflecting on what you have done well then you can easily forget what you have achieved to get to where you are.

This important lesson in improving your self esteem is often forgotten:

Rather than focusing on where you are going and always stressing about the journey ahead, try focusing on how you have got to where you are now and what you have achieved on the way.

The journey to where you are has not been easy has it? You have managed to get here haven't you? There is a positive there if you want to look for it. Concentrate on what is still left to do and all the possible problems ahead and you will lose yourself in fear and doubt. That is a very negative and unhappy way to live because the future is never clear and it always looks difficult and problematic.
I am an avid sightseer so I proceeded to plan a few museum trips. I had visited Amsterdam 22 years ago but I went to see the Van Gogh Museum again as I am a huge fan.

I had a fun time in that city and we stayed out late but there was one place I visited that really struck me.

I went to the Anne Frank House Museum. What a sad story! For years I have not thought about the Holocaust but once again it was there in front of me. I was always interested and shocked in the subject even as a kid. This museum is amazing. The story of Anne Frank and her family who went into hiding for two years to escape the Nazi's. The museum told Anne's story and reminded me of how I had studied this at school. Her simple testimony makes it real for the visitor despite the many years that have past.

Well, two weeks later and I have read her diary and learnt more then everytime I open the television tere seems to be a documentary or film covering the subject. What interests me most are the feelings and thoughts of those involved. I am still trying to fully understand how so many normal people became sadistic and evil players in that history. Even worse, how many of the high ranking officials do not feel guity, only "sorry" and maintain the usual phrase "I was not responsible, I was just doing my job!"

We all need to take responsibility for the result of our actions and as I witnessed in a film I saw last night we can always do something to help. Those who helped Anne's family put themselves at huge risk and last night I watched a film about another hero of that time. Irena Sendler, a social worker who went into the Ghetto in Warsaw to save children and smuggle them out placing them in loving Polish families who looked after the and protected them.

Now I want to say something. I keep seeing comments like "we need to remember what happened during the Holocaust so it doesn't happen again. Well, guess what? It has happened again and again. Cambodia, Rwanda, World Wars and who knows what. It happens every day whenever one person is victimized for his race or beliefs. The Jews story is particularly sad and shocking but it is unfortunately one example among many of the cruelty of man.

Take a look at this website about what happened to Anne Frank and her family in the secret annex.

Let's not remember how fortunate we are to live now and not to have to face those times.

Karlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11367395370964339645noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3499334018043406724.post-84034467546271836732013-10-10T03:56:00.001-07:002013-10-10T03:56:49.137-07:00Another new experience - Unfortunately!Having just completed a wonderful summer teaching Pre-sessional English to postgraduate students at Leicester University in the UK, I met up with my wife Elgiz to begin a short break after all that hard work and marking.

So I spent a week in London doing some sightseeing (I am now trying to see the less known sights in London). Then it was off to settle my son Daniel into his second year a great five days or so there. Boy! Is that place ever fun! (Explain later).

London - Tower Bridge

We then went to Amsterdam for three or four days. What a beautiful place. So much to see and do, we had an incredible time...but...

Not without incident! I experienced another first time in my life situation. Unfortunately.

Let me explain, bit of a nightmare coming up here. You may wish to look away because I am going to explain about an awful reality now that is becoming a common problem in hotels everywhere.

Anyway, we booked a nice central hotel in Amsterdam and settled into the Hotel Espresso room 215. Cozy, I thought, a bit small and definitely overpriced as all of Amsterdam's hotels are. Rediculous prices actually. Anyway our first few days passed pleasantly (not normally because we were in Amsterdam but very nicely thank you). On the third day in the morning I woke up itching like I've never itched before. OUCH! Looked in the mirror - my back, arms and legs were covered in big red blotches. What could this be? Did I eat something and had an allergic reaction? I needed to scratch and then went looking for a chemist the next morning. The woman in the checmist immediate told me what the problem was. "Oh yes, she smiled, I've seen this a lot here..." A clue for you:

Worse than mosquitos and the real vampires. Ouch! I had been bitten by BEDBUGS. Yikes!

More than a week later I am still suffering from these itchy bites.

I have now found out so much about these things and how to treat the bites but I am worried now and getting quite paranoid about staying in another bed. I will soon be travelling to Paris too...

Facts about these horrible creatures:

1. They come out at night and suck blood
2. Growing problem all over the world especially in hotels
3. You can bring the damn things home in your suitcase so beware!
4. It is possible to carefully check the bed when you arrive - educate yourself
5. Bites take a couple of weeks to go and everyone reacts differently
6. I still got new bites appearing almost a week later, they dont comeup imediately

I hope the hotel will refund us and they have already made an offer. Was it worth going to Amsterdam and getting bitten? Yes, but this was not and still isn't pleasant. Ouch!

So remember: "sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite!"

Once again I taught Pre-sessional English at Leicester University in England. It is so very satisfying to help international students prepare to study in the UK. The whole experience beyond the teaching is rewarding and I love the atmosphere of teaching at an academic institution in Britian.

It was really hard work once again and each year seems to get that bit harder. Late nights marking and preparing for lessons.

It was great to get back home to England and touch base. I also made many new friends and met up again with some from last year. It was also nice to get back to teaching full time if only for a short spell.

Leicester grows on me every time I find myself there. It is so diverse! All nationalities and cultures mixing and that has its benefits. So many indian restaurants to choose from!

I explored a bit more and went sightseeing again both in Leicester and York.

The above picture is just a taste of what you can find in Leicester town centre.

All told I was back in the UK for over 8 weeks.

Everyone in Turkey (where I live for part of the year), believes it always rains in England but this year the summer was HOT and SUNNY! Sometimes too hot...

It's back to my real life now but I am not too happy to be back in Turkey...Karlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11367395370964339645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3499334018043406724.post-84677837594815172792013-08-25T09:47:00.000-07:002013-08-25T09:47:26.825-07:00Life is not perfect...Life is not perfect. It never will be...

Stop thinking that your life should be perfect and accept that this will never be the case.

You should just allow your life to reflect who you are and if it doesn't then take small steps, (or large ones if you have the courage!), to change it so it does.

Life is not perfect. Neither are you...

Stop punishing or criticising yourself for not being perfect for none of us are.

I wish you a great day and hope that you will see the sense and hope that lies in freeing yourself of the stress that comes with chasing a perfect life. That perfect life doesn't exist.

Try and accept that you can change your reality but if you chase perfection you are chasing a false dream.

I hope that this message helps you today and I'd love your comments on how tis message relates to your life, please leave a commen below

This annual trip back home to teach has happened each year for the past six years. As we've discussed before it's good to get back home and touch base. But for me the most important part of coming back is to revisit my own feelings and thoughts and see how they have developed over the past year.

I love teaching. Why?

It is a chance to help someone and here in the UK I am helping young people who are far from home. As I return to the UK and work I am back home yet at the same time away from home because my family are back in Turkey. I miss them but experious the joy too of seeing the familiar faces and places where I've been before. This all brings into contrast the important things in life.

So I'm glad to be in Leicester but sad to be away from my dear family.

Keep reading my blog to find out more about how my trip goes and I'll try to include some lessons along the way that will help illuminate your life.

Do you decide how best to take action and face the difficulties that lie in front of you or do you make excuses?

Excuses are the false reasons we give ourselves to avoid the danger we think is ahead. Is your head full of reasons why you can't do what you want to? Why your dreams are impossible?

I've just written a new article and added it to my site that will show you exactly how you use these false excuses and I'll show you what to do to overcome them. If you can break free of these excuses you create for yourself then you'll be on the way to finding freedom and happiness in your life. It will be a real awakening for you.

It was a wide angle camera called GoPro and films your sporting activities. Most people use them for extreme sports to take film from incredible angles. I enjoy windsurfing and so we attached the camera to the boom of our windsurf sail and after we got home we checked the film....

Amazing! But what has this got to do with self help I hear you ask..?

Life is, in my opinion, an extreme sport and we usually have a very fixed view of it. We see everything from the same view and that view is biassed. We do not see the truth and we do not see exactly what others see.

Like the camera I mentioned above the shots from the camera are like an entirely different world. We don't see how amazing it is what we are doing when we get into action. When you film it like this you see there is so much more to "reality" than what we normally see. Your ability to walk, run and navigate your world is unbelievable. The world is incredible, yet we don't notice the details.

The message here is that you should take a different view of yourself and understand that you are so much more amazing than you think you are. The reality you believe in is not a true picture of the world, it is so much richer and more amazing than you know.

Open your eyes to the wonder of life and to your abilities today!
Some of the points raised in emails occur again and again so I wanted to put online some of my thoughts addressing problems with self confidence and self improvement.

The page is here so please go take a look at some of my answers.

Some of the most important questions I've answered are:

What do I need to work on if I feel confident about myself, but others don't?

I get tensed up with every small thing when people are watching me. This thing is eating me up and I will be glad if you help me deal with it.

How can I stay in a long lasting relationship?

Some pretty important questions there! I'm sure you'll benefit from some of my answers so go take a look and see if they help you.Karlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11367395370964339645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3499334018043406724.post-84221241111309821622013-06-04T00:56:00.000-07:002013-06-04T00:56:52.956-07:00My Two New Articles This Week This week I have written two new articles. I am trying to be a bit more organized now and concentrate on writing about my two favorite subjects depression and self esteem.

The first article I wrote this week was a complete rewrite of a page on my site More-SelfEsteem.com. Originally this page was a guest article but now it is my own totally original work. I have written about something that affects us all and is one of the biggest reasons why we do not get everything we want from life.

Check out my first article here:

The Problem of Self Sabotage

The second article, (success! I wrote two articles this week! :)), is about a serious question which is:

"Why isn't Depression taken seriously?" I have written about why I think it is and what you can do about it if you suffer from depression. Read this article now

This second article and the question it asks has stirred up quite a bit of discussion already on Google plus -a very interesting one that seems to illustrate the problems that exist in how different people see and react to someone saying "I am depressed".

I hope you enjoy my new aticles, if so please leave a comment for me and do remember to share my pages when you read them - thanks,

I personally love to be inspired and some of the best writers are not necessarily the famous ones you see in the bookstores but those real people who have experienced what life has thrown at them and come out the other side to tell their story.

That's what I am focusing on here, writers who have felt what you are feeling or those who really know what they are talking about and offer different points of view for you to consider.

These are writers who have struck a chord with me and stopped me for a minute or two and made me think about problems I face and see in others.

These writers have one thing in common - they can help you move forward in your life by examining common subjects from interesting angles.
"Love my life but sometimes still can't handle it when the people you love the most hurt you."

This was a great question I got this week and I'll attempt to answer it for you here.

First of all those who we are closest too know us the best and therefore they do have a lot of power over you. As you love someone your trust in them grows and anything they say or do which threatens this trust hurts.

Why do those close to you have so much power to hurt you? It's kind of obvious really if you think about it. Whatever they say really makes an impact on you because you value their thoughts and words so highly. So if two people criticized you and one was a loved one and the other a complete stranger, which comments would hurt you most?

You can feel huge pressure to live up to a loved one's expectations of you and will try that much harder to be the person you believe they want you to be. Be aware though that even with loved ones the best way to live is to be true to who and what you are and not try to be someone else, not even the person who your loved ones believe you to be. Who are you really?

If you get into this trap and feel like you have let a loved one down in some way, perhaps you feel your behaviour or what you have said has disappointed them then that hurts a lot too.

The answer to this problem is to have as honest and open a relationship as possible with any loved one and explain how you feel. If you do this you avoid trying to be something different from what you are.

Keeping secrets from loved ones is never a good idea and remember that if you are open and honest you will get that back in return.

You must always be prepared to forgive others and it is often even harder to forgive loved ones because of the extra hurt you feel. As emotions are stronger in closer relationships then the power of forgiveness needs to be stronger too and the rewards will be greater trust, love and a happier and less hurtful relationship.

Love to know what you think so leave a comment below.
It's been very sad for sure but what has got me through is one important thought.

I wanted to post this in case you have faced such a loss and I hope this thought can help you too.

Feeling sad and depressed about the death of a loved one is actually quite selfish because we are thinking about ourselves and the fact that we will not see them anymore. The correct way to think about this is I believe to take the opportunity to remember all the good things that the person who has died said when they were alive. What do you remember most? What are the great things you most remember about him/ her?

When you think like that you can be thankful for the time you spent together and take this as an opportunity to remember that our time on this earth is limited and ask yourself this important question:

What will people most remember about you after you are gone?

This is something to think about and act upon surely. All good things come to an end. Their ending makes us appreciate them even more. Being reminded of this should inspire us to make the most of our time here and that the most important thing is how you affect others lives.

Thanks for reading this today and please add your comment below and tell me what you think and what you have experienced.

Have a great and inspired day!Karlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11367395370964339645noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3499334018043406724.post-67992096044625822282012-06-15T01:38:00.000-07:002012-06-15T01:38:04.776-07:00What not to say to someone who is depressedDepression is quite a serious business and those who haven't suffered can only imagine what the sufferer goes through. If you have been reading my blog you will have seen that I believe there are many many things you can do to help yourself but one thing that really does not help is listening, even for a second, to the stupid comments that others make when they learn that you are depressed.

If you've ever been depressed you know what it feels like. The stupid
sentences that people give you that shows they don't understand what it
means to be depressed and they don't realize the seriousness of it.

I just read a really really interesting article and I wanted to share it with you. It talks about all these kind of things that make you mad if you're depressed. It just shows that others don't understand at all and what's more they are not prepared to even try.

The article is called 11 things you should never say to someone with depression.
Do you ever feel that you can't make clear decisions because your brain is tired and confused?

You need to take care of yourself when life challenges you. One thing I always find helpful is the power of silence.

I experienced it only a few times but it is really something that makes a big difference.

It is often difficult to find a quiet place - if you are lucky enough to live near an open space such as a forest or mountain or the countryside away from the city then take advantage of the silence. Sometimes we need to shut our brains down, breath gently and stop thinking. Noise prevents you from doing this.

So go somewhere silent. Not just quiet, but silent if you can. The silence will rest you. Certain sounds in nature are also restful so birds or water are not a problem but if you can find absolute silence it will work its magic on you. Close your eyes and stop thinking, relax for a while and rest.

If you do this it will bring you energy and clarity and help you become stronger.

Look after yourself and refresh your mind and this will help you in your life.

Discover how self hypnosis audio will enable you to be confident, positive and able to achieve the success you deserve.

Anyway, here's today's question:

"What is self esteem really?"

And here is my brief answer, please add your answer below in the comments section, love to hear how you would define self esteem.

Of all the tools for self improvement I've checked out over the years and recommended I keep coming back to one of the most powerful of all. It uses the power of your subconscious mind to help you to heal yourself.

Think of any problem or challenge you face, it might be something that scares you or something you've been avoiding. It might be something you've wanted to overcome for years but haven't managed it yet. This is a technique that works because you have the ability to heal yourself and change the way you think.

What is this self improvement tool?

It's called self hypnosis. Don't be put off by hypnosis. What it does is relaxes you and your subconscious receives messages that will help you confront your problems in a more positive and successful way.

You can read more about this powerful resource and get a free course which will teach you how to use this. Just visit my page about self hypnosis audio and learn why this is so successful.Karlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11367395370964339645noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3499334018043406724.post-55491566081351944272012-04-21T01:36:00.000-07:002012-04-21T01:36:35.992-07:00Do this and take action to change your lifeWe often here these days about the difficulties of modern life and how we don' have time to stop and think about where we are going.

Does this sound like you?

When a company has a problem, a group of people sit down and reflect on what is happening and a discussion of tactics follows. What is the best course of action?

Do you sometimes find yourself lost and not knowing what to do or what has gone wrong? Do you wonder what action to take?

You need to take some time out. Perhaps a short break away from the stresses of work or study to reflect.

If you spent one day a week when you sat down and gave yourself some time to think about where you are and where you are going, don't you think that would make a difference?

If you think life is passing you by, then stop a moment and relax. think about what you want and how to get it, even if it's just for five minutes each day.

Set aside some time today to ask yourself these questions:

"Where do you want to go in life?"
"How will you get there?"
"What steps can you take now to move closer to your wishes?"

I wish you luck and would like to know how you find this activity.

Sign up for my self help newsletter for much more!
What would that mean to you? How would your life change? Try to get 100 reasons if you can.

Third, list 100 ways to boost your self esteem. What can you do to build your esteem and confidence?

Fourth, make a list of goals of things you want to achieve or steps you need to take and include deadlines to achieve them.

This exercise may take some time but it will be time well spent. It will help you by changing from a negative mindset focused on failure to a mindset determined to succeed.

If you find the above useful then you will certainly benefit from my e-book Self Esteem Secrets, or you can check out my website and find about how Life Coaching can help you.

Take care,
Karl Perera

Karlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11367395370964339645noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3499334018043406724.post-50422890623290049532012-03-23T03:44:00.000-07:002013-07-26T00:55:40.364-07:00Confront your Fear...Last week I confronted an old enemy we all face...

FEAR

I love adventurous sports and this winter I have been snowboarding six times. It is a bit scary. I can now, after three years, snowboard quite well but realized one thing is stopping me from progressing and that is my fear.

Last time out I fell a couple of times just trying to slow myself down. This week I pushed myself because I thought:

"Do I want to do this or not? Do I want to advance or stay the same level? "

I decided that if I do something I should push myself a bit each time and improve a little each time I go out.

I went for it and as my speed increased I pushed through the barrier of fear just a bit. OK, I took it in steps and didn't go crazy but I pushed myself.

Life is the same. We need to confront fear and push ourselves through more challenging and uncomfortable events. Ask yourself this:

"Am I going to do this with all my effort and push myself to do my best or am I going to half-do this?"

Personally, I think that half doing something is pointless. Either I push myself to do the best I can or I should forget it and not bother.

Remember, the world needs and wants you to do your best so push yourself and succeed!
